The most fascinating area is the thrilling Street of the Knights as well as the dominating Palace of the Grand Master.
The Palace of the Grand Master is a construction of the 14th century. The Medieval and Byzantine architectural style is magnificent to say the least. The palace consists of 158 rooms in total, can you imagine? The floors of the palace are decorated with impressive and colourful mosaics while the walls are covered with flamboyant frescoes made by well-known artists of the time. The Palace of the Grand Master was the home to the Grand Master of the Knights at the time. During the Middle Ages it was used as the island’s administrative headquarters. It was also the residence of the island’s governor.
