Today we propose you step into nature and explore the intoxicating Avakas Gorge! Let’s take a hike!
Set off on this wonderful 2-hour trail from Pegeia Forest. The trail will take you through Avakas Gorge, a NATURA 2000 area, which was named after Avgas River. The gorge was formed as a result of continuous erosion on the limestone rocks. In the beginning you will follow a dirt road that, which is only accessible on foot, across an open green valley before entering the gorge. Upon entering the gorge you will be amazed by the thick-green vegetation you will encounter. While hiking through the gorge you will meet multiple indigenous plants and wild animals. One of the rarest plants you will encounter is the Akamas Centaury, known as Centaurea Akamantis. If lucky enough you will also get to view from up close a variety of animals such as the Cyprus Warbler, the Cyprus Wheatear, the little owl as well as the Scops Owl and wild pigeons.
After completing the 1.5 kilometre-long trek, you’ll have gained a marvellous experience. You will have seen the Cyprus nature at its best. Enjoy the walk and soak in the irresistible beauty!
