Three Top Landmarks in Rhodes!

The Greek island of Rhodes is a top destination for everyone’s holidays, not only for the picture-perfect beaches and landmarks it has to offer, but also for the range of activities available to do on the island! The island combines the old world with the new. Rhodes is certainly worth a visit since it is guaranteed no one will be disappointed and will leave full of wonderful memories!

Are you a beach lover? Then head for Prassonisi (Green Island). Prasonisi is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, with two sandy coves lead to an island that can be reached by swimming or on foot. The beach is incredibly popular with surfers especially during the summer seasons.

The Bronze Deer, you encounter at the entrance of the city’s old harbour, found on the top of two columns, have been the island’s trademark landmark for years. It is amazing that the specific species of deer still lives in the forests of Rhodes at the present. There are multiple legends about how the deer came to exist in Rhodes. As legend has it Rhodes overflowed with snakes in ancient times and Crusaders at that time, brought deer or rather imported deer in order to protect their campsites and get rid of the snakes. It is said that the deer’s antlers exude a substance that agitates the reptiles to the extent to cause them to leave. The deer still exist in the island’s forests because some of them escaped from the camps and sought refuge in the woods. Thus, at present, the deer that can be found on the island are their direct descendants.

Are you a history lover? If yes, head for the Castle of Kritinia, that lies on the northern part of Rhodes, standing on a hilltop approximately 130 metres above Kritinia Village. The castle was constructed by the Knights of Saint John and its architecture projects features of both the Byzantine and Venetian periods. Initially, the fort was built in three levels, and a different Grand Master of the time was allocated a level.
