Things to do in Cyprus during autumn

Even though most people view the island of Cyprus as a summer paradise, the other seasons are just as wonderful in their own right. What’s interesting about Autumn in Cyprus is that the season starts, yet the weather doesn’t begin to cool off just yet. Where the change in temperature, colors and environment really starts to show is between October and November.

In this article, we’ll give you our top 3 suggestions for an adventurous time during Autumn in Cyprus.

Tzelefos bridge during autumn

Now if you’re a nature lover, this season paints a completely different tapestry over the island. On the mountainside you’ll find the Kalidonia Waterfall Trail. Discovered by the Scots in 1878, the trail has a magic of its own. Aptly named after the ancient name for Scotland, ‘Caledonia’ the trail is reminiscent of Scottish scenery and climate – especially during Autumn. From luscious green and golden-brown hues, the landscapes transform into a peach-like orange tree line, combined with an army green mountain range. The trail is 3km long and starts on the north side of Psilodentro. The waterfall is the second largest, yet most well-known one on the entire island. With a height of 12m d surrounding pine woods, it really is something. Make sure to pack a camera if you’re into nature photography, as the entire trail features some amazing scenery.

Our second recommendation will take you to Paphos. At an altitude of 440m, the Tzelefos Bridge lies within the Paphos forest. We can’t explain how much of a must-see this site is. With interesting history to back its glamour, the bridge is the largest medieval one found on the island. Built with stone it still stands to this day, towering over the Diarizos River – the fourth largest one in Cyprus. Initially built to connect the Milikouri, Agios Ioannis, Agios Nikolaos, and Treis Elies villages together, now it is seen as one of the most mystical infrastructures, due to its placement deep within the forest.

A top list isn’t really complete without an actual settlement. Our third choice for your Autumn holidays in Cyprus is Kakopetria Village. Situated southwest of Nicosia, the village sits in the foothills of the Troodos Mountain at an altitude of 667m. Surrounded by fruit-bearing apple, plum and cherry trees, it is the perfect place for a romantic walk and/or anything else you have in mind. But the sightseeing doesn’t end there. Residing in the village is a very famous watermill built in 1754, which belonged to the Archbishop. Another great place to see is the Linos Museum. Dedicated to, drum roll please… the history of winemaking, it’s a great place to take in the culture and see how far winemaking has come from the olden days.
