The Olive Oil Park & Museum

Overlooking Troodos Mountain as well as the crystalline blue waters of the Episkopi Bay, the fascinating Olive Park, known as Oleastro is tucked away in the heart of Anogyra, one of the island’s timeless and traditional villages. Dotting the hill slopes of Mosfilovounos, the stoned-built Olive Oil Park is surrounded by blossoming olive trees, transporting its visitors to the past.

Cyprus is one of the oldest olive producers and cultivators of the world. The island has been cultivating olives for more than 60 thousand years. Through the passage of time, the techniques and machinery used to cultivate olive oil progressed. The park aims to provide insight on the cultivation of olive oil and guides visitors through all the stages used to cultivate olive oil starting from primeval techniques such as stomping on olives and using the millstone to modern techniques like using the ecological pressing method.

Besides the machinery and tools used to produce olive oil, visitors are also informed and shown various farming activities linked to the olive tree like the harvesting, ploughing and cultivating procedures. Olive oil enthusiasts are made aware of the importance of the olive tree and its cultivation. Olive oil is central to Mediterranean cuisine, it traditions, customs as well as ancient mythology. The production of olives and olive oil has also been an important livelihood source for the island. Besides being cultivated and sold, olive trees and olives are used in woodwork, medicine as well as cosmetics and soaps.
