Enjoy the absolute paradise of Corfu

Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Corfu is an island blessed with rich history and unmatched natural beauty. It is the place where the green of the land meets the sapphire blue of the sea to form a match made in heaven. It is the place where the iconic mansions and the old forts meet the narrow roads and the historic piazzas to form a majestic ambience.

old-fortress-corfuThanks to its strategic location Corfu has been occupied by many civilisations and their influence is evident throughout the island. The Old Fortress is a 13th century Venetian Fort in the main city that carries a lot of history. The town actually got its name from the twin peaks “Coryphe” of the fort. In the past, it was used for fortification purposes and during its prime it helped repel three major Ottoman sieges. Nowadays it is a landmark of Corfu and it houses various exhibitions as well as the church of St George which is a remnant of the British occupation. The Old Fort is built on a rocky cove and you need to cross a bridge to enter it for a small entrance fee. There is some walking involved to reach to the top but the amazing view will definitely recompense you.

spianada-squareSpianada is the main square of Corfu town and a current UNESCO world heritage site. It is regarded as one of the largest squares in the Balkans and promenading along it, you will witness lovely gardens with lots of trees and open spaces, a cricket field, great historic buildings, an art museum while the odd McDonalds is just around the corner. The Liston is part of Spianada square and is comprised of a splendid run of arched facades that is filled with many cafes and restaurants. It is scenic and lively as it is the main meeting point for both locals and tourists. Appreciate the Clockwork Orange moment as it is not every day you can sit down and relax in a surreal background of a cricket field, a Venetian palace and the Ionian Sea.

paradise-beach-corfuChomi or Paradise beach in Liapades area is one of the most beautiful spots of the island. It is accessible only by boat and it certainly justifies its name. The water is emerald green and crystal clear.  Welcoming little fish approach you from all directions and complement the whole Maldives in Mediterranean feeling. It is great for snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing or exploring the dramatic cliffs and caves. Since it is secluded the drink and food options are limited or expensive so it is best to prepare your own special picnic and have a romantic peaceful day at the beach. Let your imagination fly and enjoy this absolute paradise with your loved ones.

This is all for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
