The art of breakfast in Cyprus and Greece is a fascinating journey that began in antiquity and reaches contemporary times. It is a gift given by the Mediterranean to all of us as well as being an achievement of a civilization, of a society built around the give and take concept. Therefore, if you want to really get to know the destination you are holidaying, its history, and its people, there is no better way than accepting the gift of breakfast. While staying at Louis Hotels you’ll get to know Greece and Cyprus via the palate… first thing in the morning, as soon as you wake up.
Today we are sharing the Cypriot Rose Petals Preserve Jam recipe, an all-time-favourite jam found in our Cyprus Breakfast! All you who long for a taste of Louis Hotels can simply follow the instructions and enjoy!
- 1 ½ cups water
- 2 cups lightly packed wild rose petals (from a pesticide-free area)
- 2 cups of organic cane sugar
- 3 tbs fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp fruit pectin
Firstly, place the water and roses in a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer for 10 minutes. Then, add 1 ¾ cups of sugar into the simmering petals. Continue to stir to dissolve the sugar crystals. Then, add the 3 tbs of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Simmer for another 10 minutes. Mix the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar and pectin in a bowl. While stirring the jam add the pectin mixture sprinkle by sprinkle to ensure the pectin incorporates without clumping. Continue to simmer for 20 minutes.
And…viola! The Cypriot Rose Petals Preserve Jam is ready!
