Animal Parks in Cyprus that worth a visit

Are you an animal lover? Cyprus, although a small island, has a significant number of attractions for the animal lovers, including the following.

Zoo Limassol

Located on the seafront in Limassol, the zoo is easily accessible by foot or bus from The Royal Apollonia Hotel, which is conveniently located on the seafront with a fantastic sea view.

The Municipal Zoo in Limassol is a great choice for animal lovers or families with children. The Zoo has existed for quite some time, however the revamp that was inaugurated back in 2012 is a definite improvement and offers more facilities to people visiting. The zoo now offers a mini playground with mini goats and sheep, making it a memorable experience for younger visitors.

The zoo is home to many animal species from all continents, including flamingos, turtles, otters, and a wide variety of reptiles. As you walk through the zoo, you don’t notice – but surely appreciate – the blend of the natural habitats and the pathway for visitors, making any guided tour pleasant and interesting, mainly because the zoo’s focus is now on research, education, and releasing endangered species back into nature.

Paphos Zoo

The zoo in Paphos is much older than its Limassol counterpart and has a unique story to it. Initially, it was meant to be a location for one man’s bird collection. Nonetheless, realizing that he can also give through his interests, he decided to open his collection to the public. The zoo was officially opened in 2003 and was the first licensed zoo in Cyprus at the time.

The zoo is situated on unspoiled natural land, covering more than 100,000 m2. A perfect destination for families and nature enthusiasts alike. The zoo is home to a variety of animals and holds a very impressive collection of parrots and venomous snakes, try not to get too close. If that wasn’t good enough, the zoo is open every day (year-round) and has a daily show with birds performing tricks in the amphitheater.

Camel Park in Mazotos

Perhaps one of the most activity-full animal parks on the island, the Camel Park in the village of Mazotos is a great destination for families. If you’re looking to get away from the same holiday routine, this is the perfect place. Located near Larnaca, the village is 15 minutes away from the city and 30 minutes away from Limassol.

The Camel Park has more than just camels in its repertoire. Visitors can come close to ponies, horses, ostriches and even see kangaroos, among many other mammals. With the addition of the pool and bar available on site, the park is a great way to relax and recharge during your visit there.
