All routes and roads lead directly to Rhodes
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! This summer all routes and roads lead directly to Rhodes. The marvellous island of Greece that used to be the home of Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, as well as the base of the famous Knights of St John. The marvellous island that combines history and tradition with the cosmopolitan resorts and the wonderful beaches. The marvellous island with the green valleys, the medieval castles and the Old Town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is a plethora of things to do and plenty of sightseeing options that will certainly keep you delighted and satisfy even the most demanding visitors.
The old Monastery of Panagia Tsambika lies on an imposing cliff just 25km away from the capital and it is ideal for a great excursion since it can be combined with a visit to Tsambika Beach that lies just below. Tradition says that on the specific hill a shepherd found an icon of the Virgin Mary accompanied with a striking light thus the name tsambika (spark).
Panagia Tsambika is considered a protector of Rhodes and a miracle worker for women that have difficulties in conceiving. Bear in mind that the road leads only half way up the hill and then you have to walk up for 300 steps to reach the top. Throughout the climb and once at the top you will enjoy great views of the beach and the surrounding area. This is the oldest Monastery of Panagia Tsambika dating back to the 17th century and down the hill along the highway lies the new Monastery.
Tsambika Beach is 1km long and is ideally placed under the Old Monastery creating a beautiful scenery. It is considered as one of the best beaches on the island and the crystal clear waters and golden sands make it a great spot to relax and relish the sun and sea. It is ideal for families with children thanks to the shallow waters and the excellent beach facilities that offer the real deal and include umbrellas, loungers, change rooms, toilets, showers and lots of parking space. There is a water sports centre for your enjoyment and canteens to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite. For the more daring ones there is a sign at the southern part that says nudists welcome.
The Thermal Springs of Kallithea are 11km away from Rhodes town and they are a lovely and must place to visit. They were very well known since antiquity for their therapeutic properties and over the centuries they have attracted visitors from all over that wanted to experience the beneficial hot waters leaping up from the adjacent rocks.
They were fully developed by the Italians in the early 19th century and the whole complex was designed by architect Pietro Lombardi. The exclusive design, the pebble stone mosaics, the Rotonda Hall, the terrace and the striking gardens create an amazing composition. Enjoy the sun at the picturesque Kallithea bay with the crystal clear waters, the outstanding wooden loungers and the beautiful palm trees. The facilities are modern, everything is superbly structured and the historic café that operates as a beach bar has been elegantly restored.
This is all for now my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
