Found in Pelakas Village, Kaiser Throne seems to be flying in the blue sky as it is 270 metres high on a green-covered hill slope. The story has it that Kaiser Wilhelm II spent his holidays at that exact spot back in 1908. As many that followed him, he was struck with the area’s natural beauty. He was so hooked that he built the Throne we all visit today.

When in Corfu visit the Achilleion Palace. The marvellous structure was built by Sissy (the Empress of Austria). Sissy was obsessed with beauty and nature. She also admired the Greek mythological god Achilles. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Sissy named the palace after the heroic god as well as decorating the premises with lush greenery and blossoming gardens. Besides being famed as being an oasis, the gardens of Achilleion Palace are decorated with impressive sculptures depicting Greek gods. Obviously, the protagonist is Achilles.

g4retgreberWhen in Corfu visit Paleopolis and explore the ruins of Corfu’s ancient city. it is believed that the Bishop of Corfu built the Byzantine church well before 450 AD, which was considered by all a remarkable early-Christian cathedral at the time. In fact it was elaborately decorated and one of the largest churches found across Greece. The imposing cathedral carries a rich history as it witnessed many conquerors come and go from the island. The structure was destroyed several times by various nations such as the Turks, Saracens and Normans. In 1680, Paleopolis was reconstructed by a monk from Crete. At present, visitors visit the ancient landmark to marvel at the remains of this once extraordinary church.
