The Greek Tyropitta by Louis Hotels

With personal comments as our guide we have put together a collection of favourites and would like to share the secrets of Greek and Cyprus breakfast with you so that you can enjoy the taste of Louis Hotels wherever you are!

Today we will present the famous Greek Tyropitta (Cheese Pie) every person who has visited Greece or the Greek islands has definitely tasted!

For the Greek Tyropitta you will need:

  • 800g frozen phyllo dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1½ cups crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated kefalograviera cheese
  • 1 cup fresh mizithra or anari cheese
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • A dash of mastic powder

To make the Tyropitta just follow the steps below:

Take out the phyllo so it can thaw at room temperature. Lay the phyllo flat on the counter (or wax paper) and cut it to fit the size of your baking dish. Then, cover the phyllo with a damp paper towel (if not, they will dry out and crack!).

Once you’ve taken care of the phyllo, mix the eggs, cheese, mastic, olive oil in a large bowl. Simultaneously you can melt the butter. Once the butter has melted use a cooking brush to spread the butter on the phyllo sheet and place it in a greased baking dish. You have to repeat this process 7 times. Once you have finished, add the cheese mixture on top and then add another 7 layers of phyllo (like aforementioned). Finally, set the oven to 180°C and bake for 15-20 minutes (until golden brown).
