Rhodes is one of the most popular holiday destinations of our times thanks to its abundant natural beauty and rich history which charms all its visitors. Today we propose you head for Tsambika, where you will get a taste of both the island’s natural beauty as well as cultural and historic side…the perfect blend for a Greek holiday adventure, don’t you think?

The Monastery of Tsambika

Did you know that Tsamba means Spark? So, why was the monastery of Tsambika named spark? Well, as legend has it a shepherd followed a vigil light which led him to an icon of the Virgin Mary. The icon was found on the cliff, exactly where the monastery was built. It is also believed that the icon is a miracle-worker, blessing barren women with children.

Found on a hilltop overlooking marvellous views of the blue sea below, the Monastery of Tsambika is a must-visit for all holidaymakers. Although it is not known when the old monastery was initially constructed, a monk reconstructed it in 1770. Some historians believe that an alter, which was dedicated to goddess Artemis, once stood where the monastery now stands.

The Monastery of Tsambika fascinates all with its hollow-roof tiles, a typical characteristic of Dodecanese architecture. The yard and floors are covered with shells and pebble stones and most of the icons date back to the 19th century, while the marvellous iconostasis is much older.

Tsambika Beach

Tsambika Beach lies beneath the dominating Monastery of Tsambika, luring all with its blue-green sparkling waters and golden sand. The bay is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a wonderful beach day within intoxicating scenery.
