The palace thrived as the capital city kingdom of the Minoans in ancient times. This archaeological treasure is linked to many legends, amongst them being the story of Daedalus, the architect who designed the maze the Minotaur was kept in for King Minos. The only person who escaped from the labyrinth, after killing the flesh-eating Minotaur was Theseus, the prince of Athens.

Next on our list is probably Chania’s most photographed neighbourhood. That’s right; we are talking about the Old Port of the city, which is without a doubt the most picturesque part of the city. The Venetians built the port back in the 14th century as to promote commerce as well as protection against enemy raids.
