However, Petra tou Romiou (The Rock of the Greek) is a legendary location for another reason as well. The beach was named after a huge rock situated in the water of the beach. As legend has it, a great Byzantine warrior, Digenis Akritas, through the rock to prevent an Arab ship with pirates from raiding the island. The beach is truly an amazing spot attracting many artists, poets and musicians in search of inspiration.
