Crete is a mini version of Greece. Literally all everyone loves about Greece is found in Crete, only in a smaller version. No matter how you are holidaying in Crete, with friends, family or partner, the island will definitely put a spell on you immediately. Whether it is the island’s rich cultural background, charm, warm and hospitable locals or breathtaking bays, crystalline waters and inspiring sights, Crete undeniably is magical. Whatever the reason, Crete has been and will continue to be one of the top all-year-round holiday destinations in the world! Let’s take a look at a few reasons you should all add Crete to you travel bucket list.

The tiny islet of Gramvousa is a sanctuary surrounded by sparkling deep-blue waters, where the ruins of an ancient 13th century Venetian Castle lie as if still protecting it from pirate raids! At present only the ruins of the castle remain, and thousands of travel jetsetters visit the islet to view the ancient fort and the famed Balos lagoon!

Multiple excavations of the archaic Knossos site have brought to light that it was inhabited as far back as the Neolithic Period (6000 BC). Later, in 1900 BC the first Minoan Palace was constructed over the ruins of the Neolithic settlement. The palace was destroyed in 1700 BC but fortunately a new one replaced it. The royal palace covered an area of twenty-two thousand square metres! During 1700-1450 BC the famed Minoan civilisation was at its peak and Knossos was known as the most important city-kingdom. Unfortunately, during these years, the settlement was struck with devastating earthquakes, only to be rebuilt again. Within the archaeological site of Knossos, you will encounter a lost civilisation! When strolling through the site you will be amazed by all the ruins left behind. Some of the most preserved and impressive are the Royal Villa, the Royal Temple Sanctuary, the House of the High Priest and the Great Palace.

Mili Gorge is an amazing gorge and a natural landmark everyone should visit. The gorge’s trek guides you through a deserted and quaint mill village, where you will be transported to ancient times as you uncover the tiny churches, huts and landscapes of a past -busy village. On top of it all, you get rewarded at the end with an abundance of local delicacies filling up the table at the tiny tavern you find at the end of your journey.
