Zakynthos is by far one of the most preferred tourist destinations of our time. Nicknamed as the Fior Di Levante (The flower of the East), Zakynthos is indeed the Ionian cluster’s gem, with cypress-covered mountains and blue-green waters. Zakynthos invites all wanderlusters to discover its natural and historic jewels. Zakynthos Town is the bustling capital of the island and the place every visitor should start their exploration! Zakynthos Town is best explored on foot as it is the only way each of its corners and treasures can be discovered. The town boasts with beautiful squares, Neo-Classical buildings and a lively yet picturesque port.

Keri Village is the village every wine lover must visit! The village is surrounded by blossoming vineyards and is famous for its local wine. Keri Village was one of the few areas on the island that was not shattered by the 1953 earthquake and for this reason the village has succeeded in preserving its traditional identity. Defined by its stone-made building and cobblestoned alleys, Keri transports its visitors to the island’s past. Finally, the village is home to Keri Lake, where visitors discover the island’s rare plants and animals.

Volimes Village most important landmark is the impressive Agia Paraskevi Church. The Venetian Baroque cathedral is not only inspiring due to its structure but also because of its rare iconostasis. The timeless village is also famous for its fine traditional textiles and linen.

Anafonitria is a mountainous village that is home to a 15th century Byzantine monastery that was built in honour of the Virgin Mary. Zakynthos patron saint, Saint Dionysios, was a monk at the monastery who resided at the monastery during the last few years of his life.

Apart from being one of the most breathtaking beaches in Zakynthos, Laganas Bay is also a breeding ground for the loggerhead turtle which come ashore to lay their eggs every year. Part of the beach is protected to allow the turtles to lay their eggs.

Amongst the finest natural landmarks of the island, the Blue Caves stand out! The caves are made up of natural rock formations of caverns and arches. It is said the sapphire waters glisten for miles on end and are so clear you can see right to the seabed.

Navagio Beach is the Ionian Island’s most famed landmark. The golden-brown cove is surrounded by towering white cliffs that highlight the crystalline blue waters of the beach. Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Bay) was named as such due to a sunken ship that is partially buried in the golden sand of the bay. As the story goes, the ship was smuggling illegal cigarettes and in its attempt to flee authorities it shipwrecked at Navagio Beach.

Helmis Natural History Museum is a true oasis! The museum exhibits more than 1500 types Cyprus’ flora and fauna and is the ideal family outing as its collection is not only educational but fun as well!

Dionysios Solomos Square is the most famous square in Zakynthos. The square features numerous statues and busts. The most important statue found at the square is that of the Greek national poet, Dionysios Solomos, who wrote the Greek National Anthem.

Another famous square is Saint Marco Square, where visitors will also find the Museum of Dionysios Solomos & Andreas Kalvos. The insightful cultural museum was founded in the late 1950s and exhibits both the poets work, pictures and original manuscripts.

Saint Dionysios Church is the Zakynthos most celebrated church. The towering church is found in Zakynthos Town and is dedicated to the island’s patron saint, St. Dionysios. The church was built in 1948 and its soaring bell tower is so high that it can be seen from all corners of the town. The church features outstanding frescoes, bright colours and elaborate lamp holders. During the night the church is illuminated, creating the perfect atmosphere.
