Corfu, like many Greek places, has a long and rich religious history. Even if you are not traveling for religious purposes, you might find these monasteries interesting attractions. Their architectural beauty, the nature surrounding them, and the tranquility you find when visiting these monasteries are like no other.

Monastery of Kassopitra
Constructed back in the early 18th century, the Monastery of Kassopitra lies in the city of Kanoni. Having gone through a detailed renovation, shortly after being purchased by the monk Gennadios, the monastery couldn’t have turned out to be more beautiful. This holy place, surrounded by lush vegetation, boasts a powerfully present post-Byazntine design. Built in honour of the Mother of God Kasspoitras – known for restoring the vision of a man called Stefan – the location is exceptional and is definitely worth a visit during your summer holiday in Corfu.

Monastery of Paleokastritsa
Renowned for its serene atmosphere, the magnificent views of the Monastery of Paleokastrista during sunset are more than mesmerizing. Located at the top of the hill in Paleokastritsa, the monastery was first built in the 13th century, and it was intended to worship the Virgin Mary. During your visit you’ll be able to get a glance at the local life; seeing how monks work to create olive and kumquat products. Be sure to toss a coin into the well located in the yard. According to a local legend, doing so will make you return to the island one day.

Vlacherna Monastery
Perhaps one of the more picturesque monasteries. Vlacherna is located near the south of Kanovi. Dating back to the 17th century, the monastery functioned as a place of worship until the 1980s. After that point, the location became a place for guests and tourists to celebrate various occasions. Since it is the only building on the islet, when you visit the monastery, make sure to take a boat ride to its neighboring island, Mouse Island

Monastery Of Pantokrator
Dedicated to the transfiguration of God, the monastery of Pantokrator was founded by Alexios the Sratopdearch and John the Primikerios in 1363. Located at the top of Mount Athos, the monastery’s resilience has been proven time and again, having withstood destructive fires in 1773 and 1948, it has become the strongest and best version of itself to the current day.

Monastery of Saint Paraskevi
Agia Paraskevi is located in Sgourades and began as a chapel that during the 19th century belonged to 22 founders.
A verdant olive grove surrounds the monastery, thus creating a beautiful landscape.
The current Sanctuary of Agia Paraskevi in Sgourades has an elaborate icon screen made of marble which was constructed in 1906.
In Agia Paraskevi in Sgourades parts of holy relics of many saints of the Church are saved, while the Monastery celebrates on the 26th of July, in the memory of Agia Paraskevi.
