Want to Explore Limassol on Foot?
Those seeking to truly explore the wonderful city of Limassol should set off on an adventure on foot!
Start of your tour at Molos, the seafront area of the town, which has long been a traditional meeting point amongst the locals. Walk along the coastal Promenade, feel the sea breeze on your face and enjoy marvellous views of the glistening blue sea as far as the eyes can see. Along the way you will also come across the fantastic outdoor Sculpture Park, where Cypriot, Greek as well as international artists have set up their sculptures for the public.
Your next stop is the Old Port of Limassol, a small yet charming and picturesque harbour that used to facilitate the islanders in their trading industry. Today, this area attracts holidaymakers who seek to enjoy the simpler things in life, like a morning coffee or afternoon drink and meal at one of the multiple stone-built warehouses that have been transformed into cafes, restaurants and bistros.
While strolling through the Old Town you will come across the dominating Medieval Castle of Limassol, a fort that symbolises both the cultural and historic heritage of the city. One of the most exciting events held at the castle was Richard the Lionhead and Berengaria of Navarre wedding in 1191. At present, the Medieval Castle is home to the Byzantine and Medieval Museum of Limassol.
Last but not least, end your tour at the Municipal Market. The stone-building was built in 1917 and was the centre of commerce, trade and social events and activities of the city’s Old Town. This is the place to purchase local products and souvenirs to take back home with you!
