Another highlight of the archaeological park you mustn’t miss are the Saranda Kolones Palace, the Asklipeion Temple, the Limeniotissa basilica as well as the fascinating Tombs of Kings. The Tombs of Kings is an underground graveyard where the tombs have been carved into rock. The tombs date as far back as the 4th century and it is believed to be the burial ground for Paphian aristocrats and foreign officials.

The 12th century fort was initially built by the Byzantines and served as protection against enemy raids. With the passage of time, the castle has served multiple roles depending on the island’s conquerors. Besides serving as a fortress, the castle was used as a prison as well as a storage area under the British rule.

Presently, the Medieval Castle decorates the harbour of Paphos with its undeniable charm. Every September, the Medieval Castle becomes backdrop to Paphos annual cultural event. The annual cultural festival is a must-visit event in its own!
