Paphos to be the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023
Paphos once again made Cyprus proud by becoming one of the two European Capitals of Smart Tourism for 2023 in the European Union.
This award is very important for the city as it was selected out of 29 cities from across 13 countries. The title of European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023 is yet another confirmation that the course set and the actions implemented in the city so far, in areas such as Accessibility, Sustainability, Digitization, Cultural Heritage and Creativity are now being rewarded and recognized at a European level. Paphos has now managed to compete with vibrant destinations within the global tourism arena, such as Porto, San Sebastian, Seville, and many other popular tourist destinations.
What does this award mean for Paphos?
What the title means for Paphos, along with other European cities which have also been awarded, is that they are now viewed as role models for smart tourism in Europe and are at the top of the international rankings in terms of sustainability, innovation and integration of smart practices. The title means upgrading the image that the destination emits both within but also beyond Cyprus while simultaneously attracting opportunities for partnerships, funding programs, and obviously creating strong networks with several other progressive cities in the EU and with the previous Capitals of Smart Tourism while also committing Paphos to progress and develop even further both in 2023 and in the coming years.
What does 2023 entail for Paphos?
An action plan is in preparation for promoting the title in Cyprus and abroad. Paphos will also become part of the expanding network of smart tourism cities in Europe in view of sharing their best practices and experiences. The winning cities will receive specialized communication and branding support for 2023. This will include the production of an advertising video, a specially designed hashtag sculpture for the town that will be exhibited within the city throughout 2023, and personalized promotion and activities within Europe and on an international level.
