Four Christmas villages to visit in Cyprus

This year is the perfect opportunity to visit Cyprus for Christmas and experience something new and local which has been proposed by The Ministry of Tourism in Cyprus. The new experience is a project which will essentially transform the communities of Agros, Kyperountas, Platres, Kalopanagioti and Kakopetria into Christmas villages.

Witness the variety of talent and local culture, as artists all over Cyprus (meaning ones that are also foreigners) are preparing musical and dancing performances for your entertainment. The spectacles are sure to be a blast and will offer a true taste of Cyprus’s hospitality, nature, and Christmas atmosphere.

Agros

All the villages chosen as the ‘Christmas Villages’ are located near the area of the Troodos Mountain Range. Agros lies at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Nestled in panoramic forest views, surrounded by mountains, these picturesque villages resemble the layout of a theatre. Mesmerizing visitors and locals to this day.

Kyperounta

We move to a higher altitude with our next Christmas Village, Kyperounta. Located at an altitude of 1,300 metres, Kyperounta sits in the Pitsilla region of Lemesos in Troodos. Established during the Byzantine period, its history can be seen and experienced at every turn. Especially at the three museums, and a local winery.

Platres

Platres is probably the most well-known village of all. Popular with ex-pats and tourists, this amazing place. One of the original 119 villages which were around way back during the Frank Rule or Lusignan Era, Platres is filled with natural attractions as well as symbols and sights of Cyprus’s history and journey through past times.

Kakopetria

Located southwest of the island’s capital, Nicosia, Kakopetria was founded on the foothills of Troodos. Standing at an altitude of 667 metres, it’s the driest village of all the ones we mentioned. While this may be the case, the area is famed for its unique and delicious apples. Something many enjoy, especially during Christmas.

The villages have already opened to visitors on November 27th, 2021 and will continue to amuse visitors until the 6th of January. Don’t miss the event!
