Why you should visit Lindos, when staying in Rhodes

Lindos Beach
An inviting stretch of sand, Lindos Beach runs along a small coastline of a bay. The landscape runs from the Acropolis of Lindos watched over by a row of whitewashed houses on the hillside. With its golden sand and clear waters, this spot is not far from the definition of paradise itself. It’s a good idea to arrive in the early morning to make sure you get a good spot. Church of Panagia
For those looking to discover some of the local traditions and culture, a visit to the church of Panagia is a must. A Greek Orthodox place of worship, the church was built in the 1300’s however it has been through multiple renovations over the centuries. The church still retains much of its original beauty. Its most striking feature is the high-rise, stone bell tower, a typical feature of Rhodian churches. Its interior is even more impressive, with vibrant 19th-century wall frescoes depicting important saints and biblical scenes. The Church of Panagia is attached to a small museum; with a couple of euros, you get to admire all its exhibitions during your visit.
St. Paul’s Bay
For a more picturesque excursion during your visit to Lindos you should head to St. Paul’s Bay. Appearing like a swimming pool carved out and filled by mother nature herself, the beach is surrounded by rugged coastal cliffs and the remains of the acropolis can be seen atop the highest point. The best time to visit is in the late afternoon and after the day-trip visitors have left the bay.
Acropolis of Lindos
Leaving the best for last, The Acropolis of Lindos is an extraordinary testament to Lindos’ rich history and culture. An archaeological site of an ancient citadel, the Acropolis rises above the town and sits atop a 116-meter-high hillock, strategically located overlooking the surrounding coastline.
At the top lie ancient ruins of the Temple of Athena – the goddess of knowledge – which was built sometime in the 4th century BC. In addition, the Hellenistic walkway, and a Byzantine chapel of saint John can be seen there. You can easily spend an entire day marveling at the ancient site, which has survived many centuries and occupations.
