Why Protaras is perfect for you
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a family vacation with lots of sun the resort region of Protaras is perfect for you. It is located on the south-eastern coast of Cyprus and it is the home for some of the best beaches and hotels in the island. The hotels will give you the 5-star treatment and almost all of them are family friendly with large swimming pools and children’s playgrounds. They also offer direct access to some lovely private beaches that are only available to hotel guests.
Protaras with a population of only 20000 people is all about the tourist industry and because it is so small and compact everything you need is close by. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy and lots of bars to have fun. Just in case you really feel like dancing and want to party hard until the early hours of the morning then the wild resort of Ayia Napa is just a 10-minute drive away.
There are many scuba diving and snorkelling schools
that will give you the necessary training for your first dive. For the more experienced divers, there are plenty of sites for every ability and they include Liberty wreck, Green Bay, Sea Caves, the Cliffs and the Chapel. The most well-known diving site is 45 minutes from Protaras and it is the Zenobia shipwreck just off the coast of Larnaca.
The tiny church of Profitis Elias sits on top of a hill and is really worth a visit. The 150 steps that you need to climb in order to reach your destination are a minor price to pay for the tranquillity it provides with the spectacular views from the top. It is really wonderful at sunset and at night when the church is floodlighted. You can buy a ribbon at the bottom to tie it to the trees of the church and make a wish for a loved one or light a candle inside the church for those that passed away.
If you are holidaying in the Protaras area you must visit Konnos Bay. At the bottom of steep cliffs lies heaven on earth with superb views and tremendous natural beauty. It is a 10-minute drive from Protaras and lies between Fig Tree Bay and Cape Greco but the entrance to this secluded beach is kind of hidden so keep your eyes open. Halfway down the cliff, there is a snack bar where you can have something to eat and drink. Although the beach is small and very busy once you get there you will certainly enjoy a wonderful day out.
This is all for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
