While in Paphos
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Love is in the air and this time round we shall visit Paphos which is the birthplace of the mythical Greek Goddess Aphrodite. Cyprus, the island of love, is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean Sea. For decades now it attracts tourists from all over the world thanks to its wonderful climate, the amazing beaches and 5 star resorts, the hospitality of its people and the high quality of life. Although it is a small island the infrastructure is second to none as the country is heavily dependent on tourism and hosts more than 2 million tourists annually.
Cyprus and Paphos boast more than 300 days of sunshine per year and they are ideal for the complete holiday escape with lots of sun, sea and entertainment. It has 27 beaches that are open to the public with more than 12 of them awarded with the blue flag of excellence. The hotels are top class and you can both relax and sunbathe at the hotel’s pool or you can go to the beach and do some water sports, snorkelling and diving.
If you want a wonderful day out with the kids you can visit the Aphrodite Waterpark. The facilities are excellent and safe, the environment is friendly and suitable for precious family time. The children have plenty of things to do and the food is well priced. Another must family visit is the Paphos Zoo where you can meet all sort of wildlife creatures and get the chance to chat with the talkative and colourful macaw parrots. Connect with nature and enjoy the serene environment of majestic palm trees, ponds and lovely gardens. The Zoo is located in the Peyia area and it is just a few minutes outside Paphos.
The Medieval Castle of Paphos is one of the landmarks of the city and stands grandiose at the far end of the harbour. It was a Byzantine fort that was built to protect the harbour and throughout the years has been used as fortification, as prison cells and as a storage area for salt. In September it hosts the Aphrodite festival and serves as a magnificent staging area for opera concerts. Walk along the promenade and enjoy your coffee or lunch in the restaurants or merely watch the sunset from the top of the fort as it offers great views of the city and the sea. The admission is just €2 and does exactly what it says on the tin!
