Laganas Bay is truly a gem made up of a 14-kilometre sandy stretch that starts from Geraki at the southeast tip all the way to Laganas. It is also one of the last nesting grounds for the endangered loggerhead turtle and this is the reason that parts of Laganas Bay have been designated as part of the National Marine Park, in an attempt to protect egg-laying turtles as well as hatching turtles.
The Post-Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos is the main attraction amongst holidaymakers. One of the museum’s preferred collections is the Orthodox icons and wall-paintings, which were gathered from churches and monasteries that were destroyed due to the unfortunate 1953 earthquake.
The inspiring ruins of ancient Olympia, which was the place where the Olympic Games were born, are located only an hour away from Killini, a tiny harbour on the Greek mainland located opposite Zakynthos. There are frequent ferries to Killini and shouldn’t be missed!
The Monastery of Panagia Skopiotissa is amazing! Holidaymakers set off on scenic 4-kilometre long climb starting from Argassi Village to the ruins of Panagia Skopiotissa. The hike takes nature-buffs through unspoiled nature. The monastery, which is found on the top of mountain Skopos, was built in 1624 and is home to awe-inspirational murals. The view from the top is out of this world as well!
