The story behind Louis Hotels in Cyprus
The Louis Group is one of the leading travel, cruising and hotel groups in the Mediterranean with over 80 years of experience.
As a member of the Louis Group, Louis Hotels, have a leading position with a quality portfolio, prime beachfront locations, and loyal customers in the hotel sector in both Cyprus and Greece with 6 hotels in Corfu, Mykonos, Crete and Rhodes and 20 hotels and villas in Paphos, Protaras, Limassol, Polis Chrysochous and Nicosia.
It all started back in 1935 when the founder of Group Mr. Louis Loizou started promoting Cyprus as a tourist destination with a bag full of oranges! It wasn’t long enough when he founded the 1st Tourist Agency in Cyprus Limassol in 1942, and 3 years later when he purchased the 1st hotel “Semmering” up in the Cyprus mountains, and leased the “Grand Hotel” in Platres a bit later.
Almost 15 years later, the “Louis Hotel” opened in the heart of the capital – Ledras street, making it one of the centerpieces in the city.
Within less than 20 years, Louis Group has established more than 30 hotels all over Cyprus, attracting both the locals and tourists from around the world to enjoy a well-rounded luxurious experience at their hotels!
In 1986, Louis Group made a big step in the Cruising industry and decided to create “Louis Cruises” (later establishment of Celestyal Cruises in 2014) – the predominant home-porting cruise operator in Greece and the preeminent cruise line serving the Greek Islands and East Mediterranean.
Major developments occurred in the years that followed, allowing the Company to expand its operations in both Cyprus and Greece. In 1992, it began by managing the “Creta Paradise Beach Resort” Hotel in Chania, Crete. Louis Hotels bought the “Louis Grand” hotel in Corfu and the “Louis Creta Princess” hotel in Chania in 1994. It purchased the “Louis Plagos Beach” Hotel in Zakynthos in 1998. In 1999 and 2000, the Company added four hotels to its chain: one in Zakynthos, two in Corfu, and one in Mykonos.
In August of 1999 the Group transformed into a public company and was admitted to the Cyprus Stock Exchange.
In 2002, the company came to an agreement with Hilton International for the management of the Hilton Nicosia. This significantly strengthened its position in city hotels by offering top quality services and facilities for business meetings and conferences.
Three new hotels opened between 2016 and 2018, and a fourth opened in May 2019 under the Louis Hotels brand.
St. Elias Resort in Protaras, which has been inactive for five years, was relaunched as an Ultra All Inclusive Resort in 2016 after an investment of over €4m.
Up to this date, Louis Hotels currently manages 26, 4 and 5-star hotels and resorts in Cyprus as well as the Greek islands of Crete, Corfu, Mykonos, and Rhodes.
