The Legendary Mandraki Harbour of Rhodes

Rhodes charismatic and quaint harbour dates back to the city’s founding in the early 400 BC. Mandraki Harbour is protected by a lengthy breakwater, where you will also find the ancient 15th century Saint Nicolas Fort and three dominating Windmills.

At the entrance of the charming harbour, the two towering stone-made columns decorated with bronze deer do not seize to amaze every visitor. As it is well-known, the deer is the island’s heraldic symbol. The symbol or rather image of the deer is found everywhere on the island and its local goods such as ashtrays, traditional ceramics and souvenirs. In antiquity, the inspiring Colossus of Rhodes used to stand where the two deer are positioned today.

The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the wonders of the ancient world, depicted a gigantic statue of Helios, a Greek God and human representation of the sun. The massive structure of the Greek God was constructed in the 3rd century BC.

Currently, Mandraki Harbour is lined with luxury yachts as well as excursion boats which offer day trips to neighbouring islands.
