The 5 best places to visit in Rhodes

If you’re planning a visit to Greece, Rhodes is one of the best places to start. It packs an experience full of great food, fascinating culture, and mythical scenery. Let’s look at the five best places to visit while you’re here.

Ancient Acropolis of Lindos

Some things in life are just jaw-dropping. The ancient Acropolis of Lindos is one of those places. Permeated rock formations surrounding the city or ‘Acropolis’ resemble a canvas of copper-brown brush strokes. Enhanced only by the temples from the 4th Century BC and ruins of the ancient Greek goddess Athena, with some structures dating as far back as the 9th century BC.

Butterfly Valley

This lush heaven, more commonly referred to as Petaloudes, is home to a diverse array of butterfly species; which gather there in large numbers during the last period of their life cycle. The site offers more than just butterflies. In fact, it is the only site in the world with a natural forest of Oriental Sweetgum trees. The forest, alongside the small yet picturesque waterfalls, makes it the perfect place for a walk or even an entire day out for those with the time and passion for it.

A Day at the Agios Pavlos Beach

Beaches. Who can get enough of them? The Agios Pavlos, or St. Paul’s beach is something taken out of a novel and placed into reality. Unpopulated during mid-season, it’s a fantastic location to take a dip into the crystal-clear Aegean water.

Museums

If you’re looking for a detour from all the ancient history and sightseeing, you can do so at the toy Museum in Archipoli. A great place to take your little ones to, the museum holds an interesting collection of Greek toys from the 1930’s all the way up to the 1990s. Another place to stop at is the Modern Greek Art Museum. It showcases some of Greece’s best 20th Century artists, including Vasiliou Spirous, Giannis Gaitia, and Karaki Vaso. If art and culture are your things you don’t want to miss this one out!

Old Town

The Rhodes Old Town is the largest medieval city in Europe. Once home to a massive statue of Helios (The Colossus of Rhodes), the city was named a World Heritage City by UNESCO. The buildings and monuments date back over 2,000 years, and are some of the best things to see during your trip on the island.
