Sightseeing in magnificent Rhodes
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Rhodes is the world famous diva of the Greek Dodecanese islands and a magnificent holiday destination. Today we shall have a quick look at some of the sightseeing options available.
The Palace of Grand Master is the major trademark of the island. It is located in the enchanting old part of Rhodes town and it is one of the best preserved medieval castles. Whether you are a history fan or not this is truly an outstanding piece of history. Get a guide book or you will miss out on what you are looking at.
The Archaeological Museum is located in the former hospital of the Knights of St John. It is built around a central courtyard and the main exhibits are on the first floor. The collection includes an ample display of artefacts derived from the ancient sites of Rhodes.
The 14th century Church of Our Lady of the Castle is located on Pindarou Street inside the old city walls. It was the home church for the Knights of Saint John and the ruins are one of the oldest remaining buildings from the medieval era.
The Acropolis of Rhodes is located on a nearby hill on the west side of Rhodes Town. It includes a stadium, gymnasium, amphitheatre and temples. There is a real sense of history when you visit this wonderful site. The amphitheatre and stadium are well preserved as is a small part of the temple. It is not as well maintained as Ancient Kamiros or the Castle in Lindos but bearing in mind its proximity to Rhodes town it is definitely worth the visit. The view from the hill is beautiful and is a great spot to take some photos.
Mandraki Harbour is the heartbeat of Rhodes town and the former home of the Colossus of Rhodes. With its picturesque waterfront and relaxed atmosphere, this is a good spot to stroll and relax. Plenty of cafeterias, bars and restaurants. At night time everything is alive and the harbour looks stunning with the lights from the cruise ships and boats.
The Butterfly Valley is pure paradise. It is a reproduction spot for butterflies and it is perfect for nature lovers and photographers. When it is butterfly season everything is spectacular but even when it is not this is still an amazing walk through the forest with streams and waterfall along the way to the top of the hill and the church.
This is all for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest. For a great holiday vacation visit Louis Amada Colossos Resort.
