The walls of the city were initially built during the Byzantine period. The Knights reinforced the walls during the 14th and 16th centuries. The ancient walls are four kilometres long and twelve metres wide. In certain parts you will find dominating towers, towering gates, impressive bastions, a moat as well as firing posts.
