Relish the majestic symphony of Corfu
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Hans Christian Andersen once said that where words fail, music speaks. Corfu is an island that will speak to your heart just like a marvellous composition from the greatest maestros. It is a symphony of supreme form whereby all the elements and instruments blend together to create a strong emotional storm that captivates your senses. This wonderful island of vast beauty lies in the far north-west corner of the Ionian Sea and its cultural heritage mirrors all the years spent under Venetian, French and British command. In 1864 it was united with Greece and for decades now it is a popular travel destination that offers a memorable and complete holiday experience.
One of the nicest places to visit in Corfu is the Old Town. Here you can observe the amazing architecture and it is an interesting area to walk through. Wander around and feel the history of the island with the long-standing buildings, the narrow streets, the cobbled paths. Along the way you will come across churches, mansions and the place is filled with shops, bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Inside the Old Town lies the Old Fort that is also a landmark and a top historical attraction. It was built on a cliff in the 13th century by the Venetians and it was used as fortification to repel the Ottoman army. These days it hosts various exhibitions.
The Agios Georgios (St George) area in the north of the island is a lovely resort that is located 35km from Corfu capital. It is a lovely bay with an endless sandy beach that runs for 5km and definitely one of the best and safest of the island, having been awarded with the blue flag of excellence by the EEC. The luscious green hills, the pine trees and the crystal clear water will delight you and the beach facilities include sunbeds, umbrellas, air showers, water sports centre. There are plenty of taverns, restaurants, small local supermarkets and it is well suited for families and people who wish to enjoy a relaxing day and avoid the tourist frenzy of other more commercial beaches.
The trip and the panoramic view from above will allow you to enjoy the splendid coastal scenery of Corfu as Agios Georgios remains one of the few places that has not been affected by the tourist developments. While in the area a visit to the top of the cliffs and the traditional village of Afionas is well worth it. Not only it offers amazing views & sunsets, it will also give you the opportunity to experience a traditional village with narrow roads, stone built houses and an old church.
This is all for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
