Mykonos is the stunning Greek Cinderella

Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Mykonos reminds me of the chic Cinderella from the well-known fairytale. It is the stunning girl that stands out all the way across the ballroom and a perfect example of how a small fishing island can become one of the most famous holiday destinations. The cube-shaped whitewashed buildings with the blue background give the distinct sensation of Cyclades and the Mediterranean.

It is easy to fall in love with the Cinderella of Greece with the unique architecture, the narrow winding streets, the windmills, the boutique shops, the churches, the lovely restaurants and the frenzy parties. It is the island with the enchanting aura that despite its stardom it manages to stay true to its origins and uphold the Greek traditions. Rest assured that the friendly people of Mykonos will welcome you with open arms.

Explore Chora, the capital town of Mykonos and stroll through the cobbled streets filled with ateliers, boutiques, craft shops, souvenirs, bars, restaurants and the odd celebrity. Go on a shopping spree along Matogianni Street and as you walk along this famous street you understand why Mykonos is so much more than sun, sea and parties. To finish off your walk visit Little Venice to enjoy the sunset, cocktails and a romantic dinner. The 18th-century colourful homes and balconies that were once inhabited by rich merchants and pirates stand proudly along the coast and the water of the Aegean Sea splashes against the foundations.

Mykonos has been blessed with a diverse variety of great beaches for all personalities and all tastes. Elia Beach is a trendy beach hub, Paradise and Super Paradise are for the parties, Ormos and Platis Gialos are for the families, Lia Beach is for tranquillity, Kalo Livadi Beach is for the cosmopolitan and Psarou Bay is for the celebrities. The choice is yours!

According to Mykonians, their island is home to around 400 churches thus more than one for each day of the year but the most famous one is Panagia Paraportiani. This white-washed Byzantine church is probably the most photographed church in the Cyclades, it dates back to 1425 and it was completed in the 17th century. It is a complex of 5 churches with the four of them built at ground level constituting the base on which Church of Panagia Paraportiani is built above them. The architecture is unique and features decorations that date back to the middle ages.

Mykonos nickname is the “Island of the Winds” and it is only natural to be a paradise for water sports fans. It attracts surfers and sailors from all over the world and there is a great choice of beaches to choose from; Kórfos, Megali Ammos, Fteliá, and Kalafátis are some of them and surfing lessons are available for beginners. In addition, there are plenty of organised diving centres and boat tours that will take you to the nearby island of Ancient Delos with the archaeological ruins. Rhenia Island is another must-see isle close to Mykonos and it boasts with natural beauty and calms clear seawaters.

This is all, for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
