Museum Hopping in Chania!

Crete is celebrated for being an island with a rich cultural heritage and history. What better way to experience the island’s rich and turbulent past than setting off on a museum hopping day while vacationing in Chania? Every museum offers valuable collections taken from Chania’s past, illustrating its history as well as customs and traditions.

First Stop-Archaeological Museum

The Venetian Saint Francis Monastery is home to the Archaeological Museum, which is found right in the heart of Chania. The collection of the museum includes marvellous artefacts such as Roman mosaics depicting Ariadne and the Greek God Dionysus, findings taken from the Minoan period as well as ancient coins, clay objects, jewellery and sculptures.

Fifth Stop- Byzantine Museum

The byzantine Museum is found in the hub of Chania’s Old Town and its exhibits an extensive collection of artefacts originating from the Byzantine period. Some of the most fascinating findings include sculptures, mosaics, ceramics as well as Byzantine ecclesiastical icons.
