Cyprus is not just fun, sun, sea and resorts. There are plenty of activities to do and many attractions to see. It has a rich history with many civilisations leaving their mark on the island. From the Greeks to the Romans, from the Byzantine to the Crusaders and the English. The attractions are varied with infinite things to do and because Cyprus is relatively small in size the driving time from one place to the other is really minimal. You can take advantage of the excellent road infrastructure and rent a car to discover the sheer beauty of the island.
Some of the most famous attractions in Paphos include Paphos Harbour and Paphos Castle. Check out Aphrodite’s Rock that legend says was the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Visit the Tombs of the Kings to explore this ancient necropolis, a burial site for the elite that dates back to the 3rd century BC. Paphos Archaeological Park is the home for many prehistoric and Roman relics including an amphitheatre and agora.
Near Limassol you can visit Kolossi Castle, a medieval former crusader stronghold and the Curium which is a wonderful preserved ancient amphitheatre with a fascinating view of the Mediterranean Sea. Walk around the narrow streets of Limassol Old Port with the lively cafes and the shops selling local delicacies and souvenirs.
Visit the captivating Church of Profitis Elias in Protaras, the city of Nicosia and its imposing ancient city walls, the stunning Church of Saint Lazarus and the amazing palm tree promenade in Larnaca. Troodos Mountains is a place where you can ski in the winter and enjoy the splendid views of Mount Olympus which is the highest peak in Cyprus. Discover the wonderful traditional villages scattered all over the island and pop into a tavern to test the delightful Cypriot cuisine.
Cyprus is also a paradise for walkers and trekkers who can try the various paths and at the same moment relish the magnificent scenery of the island. There are a great variety of walks available from the paths of Troodos Mountains, the nature trails in the Akamas Peninsula to paths along the coast of Limassol.
