Cyprus is just another day in paradise
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts!
Cyprus is one of the favourite holiday destination for tourists from all over the world. Imagine that in 2016 it attracted more than 3 million people with a great number of them choosing to revisit year after year. Falling in love with this lovely Mediterranean island is easy and the time has come for me to finally admit that Phil Collins was absolutely right. So think twice because Cyprus is just another day in paradise.
Yes, the golden sun, the clear warm waters, the luxurious resorts and the sandy beaches are the major deciding reasons to visit but Cyprus has so much more to offer. It is a modern European country with advanced transport infrastructure that is well served by the major airline companies and airports of Europe and it has never been more affordable and easier to get there. The Cypriot people are well known for their hospitality and everywhere you go you are greeted with a warm welcome. The atmosphere is always relaxed and there are plenty of activities to do and many more things to see.
The local cuisine is definitely a treat and something that has to be experienced and to be enjoyed. Cyprus dishes carry rich history and are a wonderful amalgamation of Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern dishes. You have to try Cyprus Meze which is a selection of Cypriot foods and can comprise of up to 25 small courses. They usually contain meat and fish dishes and they are accompanied with fruits, salads. Check out the best potatoes in the whole wide world, Cyprus halloumi which is a type of cheese and the meat lovers should try kleftiko, souvlakia and sheftalia. If you enjoy fish you will be guaranteed to some fresh fine dishes like squids, calamari, octopus and red mullet. Feel free to try the catches of the day!
You need a good wine with your meal and there are many excellent local choices. Thanks to the favourable climate wine has been produced in Cyprus for over 4,000 years. You can take a wine tasting tour of the local winery estates and have a sip of the traditional sweet red wine called Commandaria with the name dating back to the crusades (commander). It is the oldest named wine of the world still in production. Enjoy the wine festivals that take place over the island, including the Limassol Wine Festival that takes place in August, and the October Afamia Grape Festival in Koilani.
If you like your holes on the green, Cyprus has plenty of golfing courses for you to consider. The four main ones are as good as championship standard with three of them located near Paphos and one near Limassol. These are: Tsada Golf Course, the Aphrodite Hills Golf Club near Pissouri, the Secret Valley Golf Courses which are in the Paphos area. Vikla Golf Course is located at Vikla Village close to Limassol.
This is all for now, my dear fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest.
