Panagia Vlacherna and the nearby Mouse Island (Pontikonissi) are both must visit destinations when in Corfu. Kanoni is a neighbourhood of Corfu that is very close to the city centre and it took its name from the old cannon that sits on top of a hill. Underneath the hill you will find the small church of Panagia Vlacherna that was built in the 17th century and it is a lovely white chapel on the backdrop of a clear blue sea. During the summer many weddings take place here and behind the church you can sit on the big rocks to enjoy the sunset and watch the airplanes that pass so close by that you can almost touch them.
