3 attractions in Limassol worth visiting in Autumn

More popular than the capital, Limassol city and the Limassol District are popular tourist destinations all year round. A stunning city, Limassol is slowly transforming into a modern ‘skyscraper-aimed’ city, filled with businesses, venues and landmarks keeping also its traditional history and architecture alive. Closely woven with Cyprus’s local culture, history, and nature, are the 3 attractions we’ve selected for you in this month’s article. Tailored for Autumn, our picks are especially visit-worthy during this period.

Kalidonia Waterfalls, Platers

One of the highest waterfalls in Cyprus, Caledonia, or Kaledonia waterfalls is located in the Platres village. This stunning and romantic spot brings people the world over, most however don’t know that the best time of year to visit is in Autumn. Surrounded by a picturesque forest, the waterfall is actually the top attraction along a 3km long trail, you can spend an entire two hours marveling at the impressive nature of the island.

Akapnou Bridge

Built during the medieval period, today the Akapnou Bridge remains almost untouched. The bridge is located on the northwest side of Akapnou Village. Used by the Crusader army to pass through Larnaka, the bridge is surrounded by many stories. One physical aspect that makes the bridge unique – and that much more appealing – is its arches. One being pointed and the other not.

The Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas of the Cats (Akrotiri)

During the snake plague, cats were shipped to Cyprus to help fight the abundant presence of the reptiles. Saving places like The Holy Monastery of St. Nicolas (of the cats). Lying in Akrotiri, the monastery’s construction began in 327AD under the patronage of Saint Helena. Helena’s solution to the infestation was to fight snakes with cats, and she had 1,000 of the furry killers shipped to the island from Persia and Egypt. Soon the savior had trained the felines to react to two bells: one signaling feeding time, and the other signaling snake hunting time. What’s fascinating is that to this day the monastery takes in any stray cat brought to them in honor of their duty centuries past.

If you are exploring the Limassol district this fall, make sure you book your stay at The Royal Apollonia – a stunning five-star beachside hotel and an unforgettable guest experience.
