Cyprus is known all around the world as the island of beauty, sun and glorious beaches. Those who will visit Cyprus will soon realise the island is so much more than a holiday destination. Besides its all-year-round sunshine and sun-kissed beaches it is also a place where history and legends were made. With a history that goes back more than 10,000 years, the island has seen hundreds of civilisations come and go led by historic personas such as Alexander the Great and Cleopatra of Egypt. The Greek goddess Aphrodite made the island her home, while the French, English, Ottomans, Romans and so many more empires claimed Cyprus at some point in history.

The 2nd century Odeon is one of the most inspiring landmarks standing on the island. The captivating amphitheatre was built using limestone. During the summers the ancient Odeon is still used for theatrical and musical performances. The timeless Roman amphitheatre is near other inspiring structures such as the Roman Agora and the Temple of Asklipeios, the Greek god of medicine.

The Temple of Aphrodite was visited by pilgrims all over the world during ancient times. Thousands of people travelled to Cyprus to pay their tribute to the goddess. The ruins of the temple are nestled on a small hilltop overlooking the blue sea in Kouklia Village. The Temple of Aphrodite dates to the 12th century. Besides the legendary temple visitors can also visit the Lusignan museum which showcases fabulous mosaics depicting Zeus as a swan and Leda.

The marvellous Mosaics of Paphos decorate the floors of five ancient Roman Villas known as the House of Dionysos, the House of Aion, the House of Theseus, and the House of the Four Seasons and the House of Orpheus. The well-preserved mosaic floors depict scenes taken from Greek mythology and date all the way back to the 2nd-4th century.
