The Blue Caves must be top of your list this summer. This natural landmark is one of the many natural treasures Zakynthos is home to.  The caves’ arches were formed by sea erosion, but what makes them so intoxicating is their crystalline turquoise water. Apparently, the water is so blue that whatever goes in to the water turns blue! The island boats with sea caves as it is home to more than 400 caves! So all that is left to do is hop on a boat and set off on a sea adventure!

Smuggler’s Cove is the most photographed beach throughout Greece. As the story goes, a large fleet sunk after being chased by the local marine authorities for smuggling illegal cigarettes in the 1980s. The ship was a Scottish fleet constructed in 1937.  The sunken ship has remained on the seabed all these years and actually adds to the entire effect of the scene, as it seems to have been plunged into the blue waters. the white-brown powdery bay and 900 feet soaring cliffs that surround the cove are the perfect backdrop as well!

Museum hopping is always a great way to unravel the local culture and history and museum hopping in Zakynthos is not an exception. Zakynthos, as all Greek islands, has a rich cultural history that fascinates every tourist. The island’s history goes all the way back to 1600 BC, and artefacts found are exhibited in the several museums across the island. One of the must-see museums is the Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos. Another top museum every culture buff must visit is D. Solomos and A. Kalvos, where the work of both reputed Greek poets is showcased.
