Where history meets modernity
Nicosia may be a modern and commercial business centre, but the city’s centuries-old culture lures visitors from near and far. And at the heart of it all is the colourful and lively Nicosia old town, surrounded by a grand Venetian sandstone fortress wall with its characteristic moat and heart-shaped bastions.
Enjoy a day tour in the area and take in the sights of the charmingly and thoughtfully renovated old centre. You’ll spot specialised museums, shops run by local artisans, and little churches surrounded by pretty grounds.
Start off on Ledra or Onasagorou Street and walk through the old town’s labyrinth of winding lanes. Be sure to step back in time at Laiki Geitonia where you’ll find plenty of traditional souvenirs. And when your feet tire, do like the locals and stop off at a café for a frothy frappe (iced coffee). Or enjoy a delicious bite to eat at one of the many trendy eateries in the area.
