Three Must-Visit Spots in Mykonos

Mykonos is perhaps the top tourist destination of our time. This popularity is attributed to the fact the beautiful Cycladic Island, also known as the Island of the Winds is packed with attractions and landmarks to visit, local food to try, beaches to lounge on and nightclubs to party. Mykonos does not only satisfy its visitors’ expectations, it surpasses every single one of them!

Let’s take a look at a few of Mykonos most-visited landmarks:

Boni’s Mill stands by the Upper Windmills on the island, overlooking the infinite blue waters of the Aegean. The fascinating museum, which remains in its authentic structure, exhibits tools and machines used in the grinding of wheat. In the past, the mills of the island served an important part of the locals’ livelihood, as they grained wheat to supply passing ships. Inside the museum visitors view how workers used to weigh the bags of flour, the wheat storage room and an impressive traditional grinding machine.

If you find yourself in Mykonos in September pop on by Boni’s Mill, where an annual celebration is held to celebrate the harvest of the previous year! As part of the festivities, crowds step on grapes using the quaint wine press to make local wine!

Delos Island, the sacred island of antiquity and of the Greek Gods, the centre of religion, commerce and culture, is only an hour boat ride away from Mykonos! Discover this uninhabited sacred land and wander through its holy site, meet an ancient civilisation, a blessed island, a thriving island! As legend has it, Apollo and Artemis were born on the island.

Delos has been designated an UNESCO heritage site due to the impressive monuments and temples found there which unveil the presence of a grandiose ancient civilisation. The island is especially famed for its elaborate mosaics made out of precious stones and its dominant statues of Lions! Also do not forget to visit the Temple of Apollo and the Archaeological Museum of Delos. The entire experience, from start to finish, can only be described as awe-inspiring!

No Greek island holiday is complete without soaking in the sun and sea! Paranga Beach is a popular beach amongst tourists and locals alike. It is famed as one of the original beaches where nudity was allowed and it initially became popular in the 1960’s with the hippies. The beach is famed for its party and laid back atmosphere. The music is loud, especially in front of the beach bar where locals and tourists dance the day-night away. This is one of the few beaches in Mykonos where you can find trees providing shade, and the shore has shallow waters making it suitable for children to play and swim safely.

That’s all for now on Mykonos folks! Stay tuned for more. Happy Mykonos holidays
