In Limassol the possibilities are endless
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Limassol is a popular holiday destination with an excellent tourist infrastructure. It has a large organised coast with plenty of beaches and lots of much-needed sun. It is a buzzing city with lots of shops and a great nightlife but it is much more than that. The locals are hospitable and it is definitely one of the coolest places to visit with plenty of things to do. In Limassol, the possibilities are simply endless.
A top attraction in Limassol is the redeveloped Limassol Marina that is bursting with life. There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops for you to enjoy your coffee and dine in style. It is a modern amazing development and here you can relish the seafront and the luxury yachts on show.
The medieval Limassol Castle is a five-minute walk from the Marina. The original castle was built in 1193 by Guy De Lusignan but when the Ottomans captured Cyprus in 1576 they decided to demolish it and the remains were unified with a newly built fort of their own. Today the castle serves as a museum that is well preserved. In the basement, there is an exhibition of pottery, coins, masonry and metalwork. It has 3 floors in total and from the top, you can have a good view of the city.
Ancient Curium is an archaeological site in the Episkopi area that is worth your visit. It lies on a cliff 13km west of Limassol and it was a city/kingdom that reached its height during the late Roman and early Byzantine period. It was a kingdom of vast importance during its time and the earliest evidence of settlers dates back to the Neolithic Period. The area is managed by the Cyprus Department of Antiquities and it is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The main attraction is the well-preserved amphitheatre, a curved auditorium that nowadays is used to host cultural events. Other most important sites in Curium are the house of Apollo, the Roman Agora, the house of Achilles, the house of the Gladiators, the Baths, the Early Christian Cathedral and the Stadium. The history of the place, the mosaics and the amazing view of the sea and the surrounding area are definitely worth your time.
Beneath the site of Ancient Curium lies Curium Beach. The coast is a mixture of pebbles and sand and sometimes it can get windy making it ideal for water sports, windsurfing and water kite skiing. Curium Beach offers disabled access and comes with amenities including kiosks, toilets, air showers, changing rooms, sunbeds and umbrellas. You can try the famous fish meze at the fish taverns located in the area. On the Curium Beach Road, you can also check out the Curium Equestrian Centre. The instructors are friendly, they have some lovely horses for you to ride and the services offered are suitable for all ages and experience levels. It is also good for children and beginners as it is not every day that you can ride on the shore.
