The Supernatural Beauty of Paphos

Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Today we shall deal with the supernatural and the mysterious forces that bend the laws of nature. It is truly inexplicable how a small place of 30000 inhabitants can offer so much to the travelling guests who choose to visit its shores for their holidays. Paphos is a coastal cosmopolitan resort of Cyprus that attracts a great number of tourists thanks to its magical powers. It is blessed with heaps of sunshine, amazing beaches, great scenery and lots of historic sights.

Akamas Peninsula National Park lies in the Paphos area and it is supernatural. It is the place to visit to explore unspoilt beaches and admire the wonderful natural beauty of Cyprus. The distance from Paphos Town is 39km and a trip by car will usually take around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Because the terrain is pretty rough you will need a four-wheel drive car to enjoy the full Akamas experience. The option of booking a guided tour is also available with the tours starting early in the morning and ending late in the afternoon.

akamasnpThe European Council has included Akamas National Park in the Mediterranean Protection Programme and the park covers an area of 250 square kilometres that include green valleys, imposing cliffs and sandy coves. The variety of fauna and flora in the area is impressive. According to the official documents, there are 168 varieties of birds, 20 types of reptiles, 16 butterfly species, 12 different mammals and a great number of trees and plants. There are plenty of walking trails and it is perfect for nature lovers, trekkers and birdwatchers.

Another great place to explore is Lara bay situated the north-west coast of the Akamas peninsula. Like the rest of Akamas it is unspoilt and one of the few beaches that have not been affected by the tourist developments. The bay is in the shape of a horseshoe, the sand is soft and the water is crystal clear. It is one of the few remaining shelters for loggerhead and green turtles to nest.

In a small wooden hut lies Lara Bay Conservation Station with information about these delightful species and a tank with baby turtles. Lara Beach is perfect for relaxing, snorkelling and in July you can see the turtles laying their eggs. Lara Bay is usually included in the Akamas National Park safari tours but you also have to option to access it by boat as there are plenty of tours that amongst other locations will drop you off to Lara Bay for a swim.
