Falling in love with cinematic Zakynthos
Greetings to all travel enthusiasts! Oh gosh it’s cold outside and we know all you want is to break free. Forget about the cruel weather and pour yourself a glass of wine. Now close your eyes and contemplate of unspoilt beauty at its best and an island with amazing sandy beaches and crystal waters. Visualise splendid sunsets, emerald green hills, secluded coasts and serene rocky coves. This exact moment you are the leading actor and producer of your own movie. We are almost certain that Freddie Mercury was talking about Zakynthos when he was singing towards breaking free and falling in love for the first time.
Zakynthos or Zante is the 3rd largest island of the Ionian Islands and a fabulous place to visit. It is heavily dependent on tourism and here you will find everything you need for a perfect summer holiday. The beaches are excellent, the family taverns and restaurants are lovely and the locals are welcoming. It also has a buzzing nightlife as there are plenty of bars and clubs all around the island.
It is no wonder that the world famous Caretta Caretta Loggerhead Turtles choose the ever romantic Zakynthos for their mating rituals. Zakynthos is the largest nesting ground in the Mediterranean for these endangered species and a National Marine Park has been established to help and protect them. The nesting period peaks in June and July when the females return to lay their eggs on or near the beach they hatched. Take a cruise to the beautiful southern part of Laganas Bay to spot and spend time with the Caretta Caretta Loggerhead Turtles.
Zante Navagio or Shipwreck Beach is one of the most photographed beaches of the world. Although it can get a little crowded in the busy summer months you definitely have to visit this heavenly location. Gorgeous clear turquoise waters, white silky sand and a shipwrecked old rusty ship blend together to form an abstract painting. The feeling is amazing, the experience is unique and this small slice of paradise on earth certainly deserves two stopovers. One from the top to enjoy the spectacular views below and one via boat to enjoy the trip, the beach and the view from the shore up to the cliffs.
The Blue Caves of Volimes are a top location in Zakynthos. They offer scenic views and are perfect for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Wonder through the caves as they reflect the vibrant colours of the sunlight and the tantalizing water. Small boats give you the possibility to sail inside the caves and the best option is to rent a private boat to see all the caves and cliffs of the island and spend as much time as you desire on each spot.
This is all for now my fellow adventurers. In conclusion please remember that life is short and beautiful and it is strictly up to you to enjoy it and live it to the fullest. Take your camera and visit Zakynthos for an amazing cinematic summer experience.
