5 Must-See Corfu Villages

Corfu Island is home to more than 20 villages of which several seem to be stuck in time while others have developed into top tourist resorts. No matter where you choose to spend your Corfu holidays, touring around the island’s green-covered countryside and blue coastline while exploring the many villages is a definite must!

Below are five of our favourite Corfu Villages!

kassiopiKassiopi Village is perked on the northern part of the island. Known as a picturesque fishing village, Kassiopi is home to many fascinating landmarks including its timeless harbour, dominant Byzantine Kassiopi Castle, the impressive Church of Kassiopotra as well as a handful of stunning bays like Bataria and Avlaki.

Pelekas Village is nestled in the green-covered hill slopes of the island. The most impressive landmark found in Pelekas Village is the Kaiser Throne, where visitors marvel at breathtaking views across the entire island. The village is also home to beautiful bays like Pelekas, Glyfada and Myrtiotissa beaches.

Corfu_townBenitses Village is one of the most picturesque villages you will encounter in Corfu. The village is nestled on the southern part of Corfu Town. Initially recognised as peaceful fishing village, Benitses is famed for its remarkable Sea Museum, where visitors marvel at the largest exhibition of shells found across Europe. Benitses Village is also incredibly renowned for its sun-kissed bays and inviting cobblestoned alleys.

Strinilas Village is one of the most beautiful villages as it is perched on the peak of Corfu’s highest mountain. The village was named after an ancient Greek word, ‘strinis’ which means ‘hard’. Visitors are usually struck by the village’s unique architectural style, which differs from the remainder of the island. a stroll through the village will have you hooked in no time! Don’t leave without sipping on a delicious local wine named Moschato, which is made using a recipe that dates back thousands of years!

Famed for being one of the most ancient and largest villages on the island, Liapades invites all visitors to walk through its labyrinth-like lanes and marvel at its impressive Venetian buildings. Visitors can also visit the 16th century Church of Ayia Anastasia. Despite being a popular tourist destination Liapades has preserved its unique identity and authentic character.
