A Must Holiday in Limassol

It is no coincidence that Limassol is now one of the hottest holiday destinations in Europe! The reason for its growing popularity is this cosmopolitan city provides for and satisfies all tastes. Let’s take look….A visit will certainly blow your mind away!

In antiquity Amathus used to be a prosperous city kingdom, the centre of culture and trade, as it also had a port which exported and imported goods. The ghost-like city lies 11 kilometres east of its neighbouring town, Limassol. Once there, you will surely understand the significant role the royal city played in the past due to the remains of the buildings and monuments. Some of the ruins include the Temple of Aphrodite and the Tombs which are said to originate from the beginning of the Iron Age!

The inspiring Kourion theatre was built in the 2nd century and its architectural style was influenced by the Hellenistic style, revealing it was originally constructed by the Greeks. Later on in time, the Romans moved the seating so as to establish a safe distance between the spectators and the stage when gladiator contests took place. In the 4th century the marvellous theatre was totally destroyed by invaders, but fortunately has now been restored and is visited my thousands daily. The Kourion Theatre stands upon a hilltop offering its visitors splendid views of the sea beneath! Although ancient, it is still regarded as one of the most popular musical and theatrical venues, where performances are held especially during the summer season!

The impressive Municipal Art Gallery of Limassol exhibits paintings that mainly highlight the work of local artists, thus highlighting the significance of art and culture. This is a unique opportunity to simply stroll around the gallery and view the stunning art pieces that represent the art, culture and tradition of the island. Some of the most impressive paintings exhibited at the gallery include ‘Chariot drawn by two donkeys’ by M. Kashalos and ‘A country house’ by T. Kanthos!’

The grandiose Medieval Castle of Limassol lies in the heart of the Old Town, in the same area where you will find the city’s Old Harbour. According to locals, Richard Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre, crowning her Queen of England in 1191 in this castle! The actual structure of the castle is inspiring and well-worth your visit! The fortified walls are of great archaeological interest and are presumed to be remains of a much larger and older castle. The fort symbolises the city’s past, and stands proudly till this day, amongst its people as if still protecting them from invasions.

Limassol offers its visitors a variety of beaches ranging from isolated bays to rocky coves and party-hub beaches! All are stunning in their own way and are enjoyed by hundreds of visitors each year in search of their favourite beach! Armonia Beach was named after Harmony, by far the most suiting name it could have been given! Harmony prevails when on the beach. The bay is the idyllic location to chill in the midst of a tranquil setting!
