Let’s talk about feta cheese

As Greek as any cheese can be, Feta is salty, dairy goodness that’s universal in every sense of the word. Eaten baked, added to salads, or simply eaten fresh, it’s a pleasant experience for your taste buds every time.

Recorded by Psellos in the 11th century, the product was named ‘prosphatos’ meaning ‘recent fresh’. Although its creation dates back to the 8th century B.C, it has become known and renowned worldwide. In the 15th century, Greece’s food gem captivated the curiosity of an Italian visitor, Pietro Casola, who described the cheese’s production process and storage in brine.

Today Feta is one of the most popular exports of Greece. In fact, no ‘feta-like’ cheese made outside of Greece can take the title of Feta. Here are 5 amazing dishes you can make at home using the delicious Feta cheese.

  1. Zuchinni with Za’atar and Feta

A fresh and delicious side dish. Make sure to infuse the za’atar with warm oil, and in the case that you don’t have any on hand, you can use mint instead.

  • Spicy Egg Sandwich with Sausages and Pickled Peppers

A perfect meal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Although you can use actual sausages, we would recommend a sausage patty, topped with feta, cilantro, pickled peppers, and sunny-side-up egg. Treat your friends and family to a healthy and delicious sandwich.

  • Baked Feta and Greens with Lemony Yoghurt

A perfect example of the universal nature of Feta cheese. This dish is packed with protein and vitamins. In approximately 30 minutes you will be to enjoy warm feta, crispy chickpeas and wilted greens. Get your fork and knife ready!

  • Grilled Watermelon, Feta and Tomato Salad

Perhaps a highly unusual dish. This salad is a refreshing and sweet side to any meal. However, we would recommend it as an entrée or light snack.

  • Breakfast Salad

If you’re into your breakfasts, this dish is going to be exciting. Start off any day with this colorful bundle of pure experience for your taste buds. Hard-semi boiled eggs, quick pickled veggies, salad, and marinated feta. Expand your culinary portfolio with this fantastic meal.
