Grand Master D’Aubusson requested the construction of the fort on the rocky hill as its position offered a clear view of the Mediterranean helped to look out for enemy raids. Additionally, its location made it hard for enemies to reach and conquer. Even the Ottoman Empire did not succeed in seizing the castle, forcing them to retreat.5094402062_fe7f6fbf29

Some of the fort’s external parts are still well-preserved at the present. Most visit the fort to marvel at its remains as well as visit the two ancient churches that stand in the region, the 15th century Saint George and Saint Panteleimon. The vistas of Mount Akramytis, Monolithos Village as well as Halki Island and the infinite blue Aegean are breathtaking and well-worth your while! Enjoy!
